Summary | 0005981: UH-60 doesn't hover correctly.
Description | The Uh-60 hovers with the main body being parallel to the ground, rather than the main rotor (which is tilted 3 degrees forward, like IRL). The helicopter should be hovering in a tail-low position, with the main rotor being perpendicular to the downward force of gravity. This would then lead to the helicopter being able to fly at cruise speed with the nose level, like a plane, which it does IRL. It's not unplayable, but it would be a nice tweak.
Steps To Reproduce | Just hover.
Additional Information | The same issue is brought up with almost all other helicopters in RHS. The models are somewhat correct with the tilt of the main rotor compared to the body, but the flight model is still just slapped onto the overall model of the helicopter from sitting position rather than tilting the flight model of the helicopter a couple degrees forward so that the helicopter hovers correctly.

Have you seen any helicopter in A3 which would have correct behaviour? |

Only a few, the AH-64, UH-1Y, and the AH-1Z, mainly the reason why is only because the main rotors on those aircrafts are already horizontal and level with the ground when in sitting position. Pretty much, all helicopters that come from mods and even vanilla arma 3 are modeled with the main rotor tilted forward just like their real life counter parts, but the same issue arises with all of them where the flight model is slapped onto the aircraft model and sent off with no focus on tilting the fight model of the helicopter forwards so that it matches with the tilt of the main rotor, thus letting the helicopter hover realistically. Great example of this issue can be seen in many other RHS helicopters, such as the CH-47, Mi-24, and Mi-8. Not sure if there is a need to make separate posts about all aircrafts I've spotted the issue in, or can it all be centered here? |

I mean, there is no point in making ticket about any other helicopters if its game issue. I don't think what you describing is possible so if you know any working example I could investigate if its even possible to do |

Mostly just trying to point out the helicopters in this mod, since this is the RHS forum. I've never modded for arma before, but it should be possible to edit the position of the center of the flight model and such in respect to the helicopter model, right? If so, is it possible to tilt the flight model forward to match the forward tilt of the main rotor of said helicopters? If yes, could this possibly be a fix that can be made on most of the helicopters pointed out? |

I don't think it is possible |

Looks like you closed the post, understandable. It's not something that makes the mod unplayable, just something I wanted to point out aesthetic/realism-wise. VTOL aircraft do exist where you can even change the degree of the rotor tilt, as seen in the blackfish. Perhaps there's code in there that can let you alter the angle of downward thrust on the helicopters, letting you tilt that 3 degrees forward on the uh-60 for instance. Cheers, man. |

VTOL aircraft is something completely different from helicopter and there is no such parameter for helicopter as far as I know. If you have some working example in game, then I might take a look at it again. If you have no modding experience then it's fine, there is no rush for it and you can post something even year after since that's kind of nature of modding. Cheers |

I believe I found something! My suspects, there is an unintentional error within AFM configuration of the main helo's rotor, specifically this line under the <Rotors> tab: <Tilt lateralTilt="0.0" longitudinalTilt="-3" /> It feels like the tilt was omitted or even positive (which is wrong) rather than negative. https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Helicopter_Flight_Model_Config_(XML)#FGRotorBladeElementTheory_configuration_format [^] |

Should I make a new post again with the solution that I found? Or will you see this note someday by any chance? I made a new post yesterday with the stuff above posted along with the solution, but it was closed and marked as a duplicate... Not sure what to do here... |
