Summary | 0005744: SU-230 / Elcan 1-4x Correct 3d Model/FOV | ||

Description | Hello, I'm aware there were a few previous bugs on this issue ex: http://feedback.rhsmods.org/view.php?id=5640 [^] I'd like to address this in a way which might work for the users and RHS. Currently the RHS SU-230 has a 12 degree FoV. In reality, the optic FoV is much wider. In Arma, due to engine limitations I understand it is difficult to emulate the wide 24 degree FoV of the Elcan. One way to partially resolve this issue is to adjust the 3d model of the RHS SU-230. I have attached an example image [1] which shows the real Elcan usable area on the ocular lens. Removing the black area inside the example image and reducing the scale of the scope shadow would go a long way to rectify this issue. It would only increase the FoV to 18 degress, but shouldn't require any strange hacks. I'd like to note on the real Elcan, the interior of the tube, which you have simulated here with the black ring, is only visible at extreme viewing angles of the eye box when your about to lose total visibility down the optic. I've provided an example of the 1.5-6 Elcan on 1.5x power (with a FoV of 16 degrees) [2]. This has a narrower FoV than the SU-230, but would match up to what we have in the game with the ocular black ring/scope shadow removed. After removing or scaling down the black ring from the model, handling of the eyebox shifting due to scope movement could be handled similar to the RHS PK-AS. I can provide more images of the 1.5-6 Elcan if examples are required. Any interest in modeling it? Thanks!
