Summary0002820: Wrong zoom values on lots of scopes
DescriptionZoom values on many various scopes like PSO-1, 1P29, 1P78, 1PN93, PGO-7, ACOG, Leupold M3, Leupold M5 are definitely wrong.
In these scopes 0.35 fov ratio is used as basic to calculate magnification, instead of 0.25.
Additional InformationFor example ACOG, 1P29, PSO-1, 1PN93 have zoom config value = 0.35/4, but must have 0.25/4, so they actualy have x2.86 magnification instead of x4.

BIS decreased minimal fov ratio (increased eye zoom) from 0.35 to 0.25 very long time ago, and all new scopes such as Premier and Spectre have 0.25 fov ratio based magnifications, so it's seems little bit unfair.

not going to change anytime soon due to huge effort with reticle remaking

Maybe changing all other scopes with fov 0.25 to fov 0.35 will be more balanced solution until major changing of all other reticles?
It's also faster - there is no need to draw new textures - just decrease height and weight of existing textures and that's all.

I've counted only 3 scopes with fov 0.25 - M145, Specter and Premier.
It's really not good having them with increased zoom, compared to other optics.
Especially M145 which has nearly x4 magnification feeling, comparing to ACOG.
And Specter which has x5.6 magnification, comparing to ACOG, again.

we will investigate changing fov to 0.35 to these scopes

Ideally I'd like to use 0.25/Magnification for all the optics too. Since BIS made the change, new scopes added to the mod have generally followed that convention; as you have noticed with the newer SpecterDR, Premier M8541A etc.

But as reyhard stresses it's a matter of remaking some reticles and recalibrating them. So probably wont change for old scopes soon

For most of the scopes you listed it's a simple matter of scaling the reticle by 1.4x (0.35 / 0.25 = 1.4)and perhaps doing some small ballistic adjustments for the PGO sights.

However, the 4x ACOG and 1P29 have bigger issues when the magnification factor is changed to match 0.25/4. Namely that rescaling the reticle according to the new magnification, means it no longer fits inside the screen aperture.
For the ACOG it would mean creating a wider scope aperture texture like this:

http://i.imgur.com/PG7Z3y0.png [^] Reticle scaled by 1.4 to match 0.25/4 magnification
http://i.imgur.com/Y0oUhHs.png [^] Widening of the aperture to fit the newly scaled reticle

Since some more new optics attachments are being added in 0.4.2 that use 0.25/Magnification we'll have to do an assessment in future on whether to scale up old scopes, or scale down new ones, or just continue to leave it as is and accept the limitations of computer displays being unable to properly represent true optical FOV and acuity within their limited screen space.
