I think you do not understand the problem.
New sights for newest M1's, M1A1SA, M1A1FEP and M1A2SEP have two zoom levels.
For day channel there is only 3x and 10x zoom. However for thermal channel there is 3x, 6x, 13x, 25x and 50x zoom.
If we would make it like you propose, it would be unrealistic, so we needed to do it differently.
Not our fault, just ArmA3 engine limitations.
We still need to finish CITV.
By the way, word of advice, like in real world, treat thermal channel as your primary means of observation, day channel is treated as auxiliary only.

As Damian said, the main issue are the Arma 3 limitations.
We had to came with a solution "out of the box" to make it more realistic. I know that is not perfect, but I'm afraid is the best we can get :)

I might have a better solution for this problem but I'll have to test the feasibility first. |

Thanks for the feedback, I agree that using the N key to change from day to thermal would be unrealistic sins we are talking about two different optics being used by the gunner. I understand implementing two different independent sights for the gunner (thermal and day sights) is very hard if not impossible within the arma 3 engine. *
Its good to see you guys are still working on it, if I find anything new on my end i´l pass it on. |

Nonetheless the fact you cannot have a switchable optic (this issue is persistent since Arma2, I had encountered it in ACE2 aswell), I still wonder about the problem when pressing "N" the thermal channel switches from "grey white hot" to "green white hot/green black hot" and you cannot switch back to the original "grey white hot".
It's kinda weird to switch from grey to green thermal. |

It's something with config, need to check that, probably quick fix. |

As stated it is by design |
