0005489: proper effect for grenade flares
RHS 40mm flares are bright enough but not as effective as ACE flares on illumination.As I go through the files:

@RHSAFRF/addons/rhs_c_heavyweapons.pbo/rhs_ammo_shells.hpp
@ace/addons/ace_grenades.pbo/functions/fnc_flare.sqf

I notice some differences --

RHS flares seems to only have definitions on their intensity, but ACE flares have some more scirpts(like max distance), so that the flare can have illuminating effects on a larger area rather than just a shiny star(ARMA lighting physics~~).

So maybe these scirpts can help improve RHS grenade flares.

BTW, those M257 illumination rockets are awesome.
1. go to vitual arsenal and test RHS 40mm grenade flares (US/Russian);
2. compare with ACE flares, which can illuminate a circle at least 300m in diameter.

I don't use ACE, do you have some pictures? As far as I know current values for 40mm flares are quite realistic for size of those rounds. 300m radius of illumination sounds like mortar/artillery rounds

screen shots updated -

first 3 for RHSUSAF white flare grenade;
4th for ACE white illumination grenade;
last 2 for vanilla white flare grenade.

It can be concluded that -

RHS grenade flares have the same effect as vanilla ones (only illuminate a small area when close to ground), and last for about 60 seconds;

while ACE ones have got awesome effects like a mortar flare (not that realistic), but got a realistic burning time for 40 seconds.

According to wikipedia,(actually from FM 3-22.31)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M203_grenade_launcher [^]

"(M583A1) Star Parachute Round. This round is white impact or bar alloy aluminum, with black markings. It is used for illumination and signals and is lighter and more accurate than comparable handheld signal rounds. The parachute attached to the round deploys upon ejection to lower the candle at 7 feet per second. The candle burns for about 40 seconds. A raised letter on the top of the round denotes the color of the parachute."
