0005285: MIG-29 and T-50 HUD Missile Range Issues
(1) The MIG 29 and T-50 can lock onto aircraft with their ARH AAMs at about 20km, which well exceeds the max engagement range indicated on their HUDS.
(2) The ARH missiles (e.g. R77, R27ER) can only fly about 12.5km before falling out of the sky from inertia, while they lock onto targets far in excess of that distance.
(3) The MIG-29 and T-50 HUDs show disparate max and optimal engagement ranges for the same AAM.
(1) Compare the HUD engagement ranges of the R77 AAM on the T-50 compared to the MIG-29. Their max and optimal engagement ranges are different.
(2) Engage a static aircraft (e.g. hovering helicopter) with the R77 or R27 at any range exceeding 13.5km. The missile will not make it there.
I am aware that T-50 is WIP but--- even when the MIG-29 fires an R77/R27ER at "optimal" engagement range, the missile can barely reach the target when it is a hovering helicopter, let alone kill another fixed wing aircraft.

It's rather unlikely that LAR regions will be tweaked - there is very little control over it and you have to take into account that LAR values need to fit all kind of missiles. As for missile behaviour itself I will take a look at it at that 2nd ticket
