Summary | 0004701: AH-1Z Gunner Camera |
Description | Currently, the gunners camera has 3 zoom modes. 1x, 2x, and 3x. If you are in 1x, nothing occurs. If you are in 2x or 3x zoom mode, there is an automatic gimballed system that activates as a tool in the airframe. What this does is basically tracks a point on the ground. You simply move the camera over a point of interest, let go of the mouse, and it will follow that fixed location with ease. However, there are a few major flaws with this system despite it's ingenuity. |
Steps To Reproduce | Major Flaw 1: This is the primary flaw. Essentially, when you let go of your mouse (or whatever you are using to control the camera), it takes a brief moment before the gimballed mode turns on. This becomes very frustrating to deal with as we are attempting to engage targets while we ourselves are moving, and letting go of the mouse would result with the camera stopping at a position where it was not intended. As a result, we are forced to lead the target and hope our cameras land where intended.
Major Flaw 2: While Flaw 1 is noticed, it's necessary to add that moving targets on the ground are also very difficult to deal with because we cannot lock onto targets and follow the targets individually. It becomes very frustrating to deal with while we are trying to pinpoint our laser onto a target that is on the move. F-35B Lightning II's have a system similar to what is required for such a task, which allows the camera to follow any vehicle. |
Additional Information | With this all being said, my solution would be to integrate the system F-35B Lightning II's, as well as other similar airframes, have in their airframe into the AH-1Z. The system uses a Ctrl+T keybinding known as "stabalize turret" (under weapons) which will allow us to turn on and off a camera area/point mode. Area mode causes the camera to hold on any given position, and it is instant rather than having a delay like the current gimballed mode has. The Point mode basically turns on when the camera is near a target on the ground, and will track it as such.
Essentially, the current airframe has a "prototype" area mode like the vanilla birds have, but lack the ability to track targets and has a delay before enabling. |
