It was withdrawn from US service decades ago and replaced with M993 AP round.

With M948 it was soon discovered that the SABOT petals would eject before reaching the end of the flash-hider on machine guns (M60 at the time) and cause catastrophic damage to the barrel. So the US elected to replace it with a more traditional jacketed AP round, very shortly after its introduction in the 1980s.
