Eh, everything is fine and realistic.

No tank, and I will repeat that, NO TANK IN THE WORLD! Have sufficent base armor to provide protection against larger calliber HEAT warheads or KE projectiles over it's sides at 90 degrees hit angle.

The M1A1SA, M1A1FEP and M1A2SEPv1 we have currently in our mod have such protection levels.

Turret sides - 450/550 vs KE/CE composite armor.
Hull sides - 160/335 (70-80mm hull + air gap for tracks + 70-80mm heavy composite armor side skirt) vs KE/CE.

These are protection levels at 90 degrees hit angle.

And they are pretty good, for example a T-90A in our mod have such side protection levels.

Turret side - 70/70 vs KE/CE simple steel armor.
Hull side - 80/100 vs KE/CE (80mm hull side armor + air gap for tracks + reinforced rubber side skirt).

So the M1's in our mod have rather good protection that is also realistic.
