0001339: The balance between vechicles
Hello,

Im not sure was it suggested but i feel i want to say my opinions outloud and maybe i will be heard.

As happy as i was to introduce RHS vechicles to the servers, i was dissapointed how it was balanced.

The facts that i want to state is compared with original arma 3 vechicles.

Mostly im dissapointed in the acceleration of all the cars/trucks/jeeps, as an example i will first take the UAZ, its acceleration is 5x times slower than any of the original arma vechicles, I mean UAZ is so slow than an original arma 3 truck called ZAMAK can win a drag race against it so that makes players and myself not to use the RHS ground vechicles during the gameplay for anyreason. Max speed is pathetic aswell and offroading with it is ... well u can outrun it on foot.

HMM - It was sad when I saw that its armor is kind of the same as the original Arma 3 hatchback's, especially HMM is mainly the vechicle that is used in War but on RHS its just another low armored vechicle + its slow, very slow aswell, top speed isnt the issue, the acceleration is tragic.

Mainly the Trucks, i dont have too much to say about them, but still, they are too slow in max speed, i agree that big truck should go slow from start but at the end, the speed is low and i hope for it to be increased and the capacity of them aswell, because the trucks hold same amounts as Original arma 3 Offroad, that is not fair. If we want to use trucks, we want them just because of the capacity and not agility or swiftness. ( this was said just about the unarmed ones, if u will want to specify the trucks im talking about, just tell me, i will do that)


RG88 vechicle, it can be compared to hunter, but again, its so slow that its not fun in using it because u will just get killed pretty fast due to its low speed from the start and in long distance.




If I will be heard by the devs about these wishes/comments, and they will look at it truly and not thru fingers, i would be very happy that I was able to bring more sence into this awesome MOD. Im not saying u are doing anything frong, im saying that it can be adjusted to the better.

The problem is, that the vanilla A3 vehicles are not scaled to realism, but to playability.

So, lets talk bussines.
The M-ATV of vanilla Arma3 has 1253Nm torque, 375hp and (here lies the problem) around 4700 max RPM. The biggest problem now is that this is not scale and realistic.
I don't want to go too deep into details, but the original Caterpillar engine has limited maximum RPM of only 2200RPM.
Now, the higher the RPM, the higher the power, as in the Arma game engine this is recalculated into an imaginary value called "maxOmega".
Now, the higher this number, the more power the vehicle has.
Talking in numbers, vanilla Arma3 MATV has a maxOmega value of 471, the real one would be 272.
And this is the reason why every vanilla vehicles will outrun any RHS vehicle. They just have way too much power hence they are unrealistic.


The next problem is that in the Armaverse you can drive pretty wreckless without doing any damage as the offroad-threshold is way too high. So I intentionally set it lower on some wheeled vehicles.
On most of the tracked vehicles there is actually a speed limit for offroad speed. So we use this limit too.

Soo, tl;dr:
Vehicles are fine, and pretty good set-up.
Once in a while I find some new tweaks to implement, and I constantly update our vehicles with those.

I think its somehow good ticket. I know you guys are keeping reality, but 20 km/h on the road under little hill is way too slow, i was using UAZ and 20km/h under little hill was possible only in winter and icy road. Same goes to tiger, and M-ATV. You have real power of vehicle in configs, but in game they drive too slow a little. Thats why Bohemia putted so overpowered engines - Arma engine have wrong calculations (that all we can observe) and they multiply performance of engines x2 so they could drive like real ones (under the hills, off road, top speed). Thats only my 2 cents...

Yeah, but then this is not a problem on our end, its PhysX beeing stupid again.
We cant just give all vehicles more power, because then it would be even more unrealistic, as when you're on a straight raod, you will just accelerate way too fast.

Thanks for the reply first of all.

I understand what u want to say RedPhoenix but lets take a look from a different point why people are not using most of vechicles just because they cant get away from anything in them, im not talking about the track vechicles, only the ones with wheels and mostly unarmed ones, the fact stays, they are too slow.

Lets place a scenario on it as most people are using them on mods such as exile or epoch - I think u guys know these mods pretty well.

Im looting, starting to take fire from god knows where, im trying to run, my car is around the corner in cover, i run there, get inside the car, start driving off and i just cant drive off cause its just too slow - Im dead, was shot in the car. Am i gonna buy another lets say UAZ? hell no, im better off with original arma 3 vechicle called hatchback.

I had a chance to drive the so called ingame UAZ in reallife when i was teenager, my grandfather had it half broken in the village, dude, those things are dreams of offroading and loud as fuck, but its not the point, I just wanted to place you, developers into the scenario of players, to fully understand what i mean. Yes you are keepint it real, but lets not forget, its a game at the end of the day.

RHS team, i know it is diferent mod, but VTN crew, just released UAZ, it have real power, and real acceleration etc, its faster than yours, and drive like a dream. You should take a look at it, and maybe correct some of your wheeled vehicles, maybe there is some other way of coding you may dont know? It real worthy to check it out.

It drive much better, much more like real UAZ.... I dont see power anywhere, all we (players can see) is how vehicles is driving, none of us are looking into confighs just to see "power" line for satisfaction. It definetly too slow, but if you wanna let this unreal, its your choice....
