Summary0001870: TC/VC Override [Bradley and Abrams]
DescriptionThe Bradley and M1 Abrams have a feature in the real life version that would be helpful to have in arma. The tank or vehicle commander can override the gunner and move their turret to a target. This feature is known as the TC override and is useful for designating targets that the gunner cannot see.
Steps To Reproduce1. Go into any Commander position on the Abrams or Bradley
2. Hit the "Manual Fire" scroll wheel option
3. Be confused on how you can fire the gunner's weapon from the commander's position but not move the gun tube to a position you need to manually.
Additional InformationGreat work so far guys. A TC override would be a nice feature to add and is useful. If the gunner is ever killed the TC can take over from his position or the TC can just help adjust fire on a target to help the gunner see what he sees. Love you all and good work.

Yes, it should be applied for all tanks, including Russian - so called "Dual mode" is very known in all available Russian tanks in RHS.

It is necessary to refer to the BIS.

redux,

TC override in the way I described it is not in the mod/game sir, what are you referring to?

What redux is saying is that while this feature is nice, it is by default not available/not possible in the engine. Although we do think there might be a hacky solution we are still investigating this.

Copy that, I have contacted BIS about this problem. To be honest the hacky solution would prob be better as we know how BIS handles feedback.
The best of luck- JW

A lot of tanks and vehicles use this feature. But in real life sometimes its just as easy to switch to the gunners sest if no one is in there.

Moving to other seats is easier than clicking 2 swithces? In Russian tanks its very dificult

in a russian tank you have a guntube in the way, in the m1 it is difficult to get into the gunners position but if you were setting up an OP the driver and loader would dismount and the gunner and tc would stay inside. With the bradleys usually the gunner dismounts with the other dismounts to set up an OP and the commander switches to the gunners seat. This is because the gunner's optics are more interactive then the TC overrride.

This is a so called tactic "Hunter-Killer"
Comannder=Hunter
Gunner=Killer

When the "Hunter" sees the target, the "Hunter" can override the gun and make it aim at where the prey is, then leave the work to the "killer", and in the meantime, the commander can resume "Hunting" instead of spending time directing the gun to where the target is and keep on track.
It greatly increase the performance of the tank and the ability to engage multiple targets at a time.

I understand that the Arma 3 engine currently prevents the implementation of a proper TC Override function which would allow the TC to slew the turret to his/her view.

Would it be possible to instead code a custom control or (hate myself for even suggesting) an addAction for the Gunner that would slew the turret to the Commander's view? Thus bypassing the whole TC being unable to control the movement of an object already controlled by another player, which from my understanding is the engine limitation preventing TC Override from being part of the game.

This has probably already been thought of and ruled out but figured I'd ask.
Thanks for all the hard work ya'll do. I thoroughly enjoy all the content ya'll bring to Arma.
